Residential Telephone Entry
Residential telephone entry units in general offer the most convenience over other entry systems such as stand alone keypads and intercoms. These systems utilize the phones in your home to communicate with people at your gate and to control it. Most of these systems are feature laden. Some of the most used features are:
- Simply intercom and open gate by phone
- Open the gate from a built in keypad
- Double ring (European style) differentiates regular calls on your phone from people wanting to access your gate
- Calls to up to 3 phone numbers from gate. For instance it can call your cell phone and control the gate from anywhere in the world. It can also call a second unit on your property such as a granny unit and the gate can be opened from there
- Momentarily or hold open the gate from any phone in home, or from keypad at the gate
- Time controlled access codes. These access codes are only active certain days and times. This is great for limiting access to workers to only times you specify
- Time controlled gate open. Can hold open gate certain times of day and week
- Hold open the gate for 1 hour. A great way to let a guest enter when you are out of your home temporarily
- Optional built in CCTV camera to see who is at the gate before allowing entrance
Commercial Telephone Entry
Commercial telephone entry units are used primarily when larger numbers of people need to access gates or doors. These units need a dedicated phone line. Many commercial units track and record the user’s activity for enhanced security. These units are ubiquitous in apartment buildings and are used to access the front door from many apartments. Commercial and business parking lots use them frequently to control the parking lot and keep track of who has access.
The higher end of these systems integrates with a computer and can be connected to several gates or doors. Card readers are frequently attached to them. Access data is stored that can track the card holder. Users can be added or deleted at the telephone entry controller or remotely by computer.
